New Africa. Geographical and Historical Situation of African Continent, New Information by a Famous Traveler Stanley and a Map Coloured in three Colours.]
Istanbul: İstepan Matbaası1308 [1891].
The chapters describe various regions and subject, such as current political situation in Africa, Egypt, Eastern Sudan, Somalia, Zanzibar, German colonies, English colonies, Mozambique, Zulu people, Transvaal, Angola, Congo, French colonies, the Sahara, Central Sudan, Colonial West Africa, sea of Algeria etc.
The last chapter (pp. 158ff) is a translation of a part of a African travelogue by Henry Morton Stanley.
The bibliography of Ottoman books (Özege) wrongly attributes the whole text to the orientalist Stanley Lane-Pole (1854 – 1931), possibly misinterpreting the name Stanley in the title and last chapter, and incorrectly quotes Mehmed İzzet as a translator.
Mehmed İzzet authored several books on geography and other subjects for education of children and adults in the late Ottoman Empire.
We locate four examples in Worldcat: McGill University Library, Biblioteca de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Leiden University Libraries and Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin – Preußischer Kulturbesitz, also wrongly quoting Stanley Lane-Pole as an author).
