Description

The author of the book was Hasan Bedreddin (1850-1914), who was at the time working as officer, educator and translator at the military school. He later became a known playwright, working closely with Manastırlı Mehmet Rıfat (1851-1907). In 1876, Hasan Bedreddin, together with Mehmet Rıfat , became one of the leaders of the coup, which overthrew sultan Abdulaziz.

This is the second edition. The first edition was made for the school year of 1292 of the Ottoman Hijri calendar, suggesting it was made 1876 AD or before.

There were at least four editions, which differ by numbers of plates. Some later editions kept the date 1292 on the title page.

We could find four examples of the first edition on Worldcat (National Library of Israel, Universiteitsbibliotheek Leiden, Boğaziçi University Library, Linda Hall). Our, second edition, is dated 1301 on the last page.
