Description

An important text in French language on the history, literature and detailed recent political situation of Azerbaijan was presented at Paris Peace Conference in 1919, where this newly founded republic among others searched for the international recognition, admission to the League of Nations and the diplomatic relations with the US. The author was the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Adil Khan Ziatkhan, who was months later appointed diplomatic representative of Azerbaijan on the Persian court.

Azerbaijan was eventually recognized as an independent republic at the Paris conference, at first skeptical of the newly founded smaller states.

The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which was proud to have first modern university in the Muslim East and the to be first Muslim nation to grant women equal political rights with men, was short lived. It was founded on 28 May 1918 and only two years later, on April 30^th, 1920, a few months after the Paris Peace Conference, the Red Army sieged Baku.
