Description

A magnificent map in Turkish language shows the development of the Battle of Dumlupınar, fought from August 26 to August 30 1922, between the Turkish Army and the Greek Army of Asia Minor. It was also called Field Battle of the Commander-in-Chief or Dumlupınar (Meydan) Muharebesi or Başkumandanlık Meydan Muharebesi in Turkish. The blue lines represent Greek troops and red lines the Turkish ones. 

The battle, which was the last battle in the Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922), as part of the Turkish War of Independence, forced the Greeks to leave Anatolia by mid September. The Armistice of Mudanya was signed by Turkey, Italy, France and Great Britain on 11 October 1922.

The map was made by an author and a teacher of military history (harp tarihi muallimi) Hakki Tümerdem. Tümerdem was an author of several books on Turkish military history, published mostly in 1930s.
