Description
An ephemeral invitation to a funeral service of the former Bavarian king Ludwig I (1786 – 1868), who died in Nice on 29 February 1868 during his staying there for the winter.
The invitation was written by Gustav zu Castell-Castell (1829–1910) and Theodor von Jeetze (1811–1883).
Ludwig I, who was a popular king of Bavaria from 1825 until the revolutions of 1848, was known as a collector, patron of arts, developer of the city of Munich and a lady’s man, which eventually contributed to his downfall.
