12°, [2 pp.] title page, 228 pp., original brown cloth binding, yellow endpapers (old annotation in inner side of the front board, a period binding, almost certainly Indian in origin with small scratches and worm holes around the spine with worm-holes only affecting the hinges of front endpapers, internally clean and crisp with age-toning to sporadic sheets).

প্রসাদকুমার মুখোপাধ্যায় [Prasad Kumar Mukhopadhyay].

Calcutta: বাল্মীকি যন্ত্রে [Valmiki Yantra] 1294 [1878].

 

The novel was introduced to Bengali as a new genre of prose in the middle of the 19th century and gained popularity in 1865 with highly influential Durgeshnandini written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. The motifs of Bengali novels soon centered on contemporary life.
