Description
A book on the Chinese and Japanese, written in Slovenian language by an educator Josip Stare (1842-1907), contains various information on the habits, history and character of the Chinese and Japanese people, as well as descriptions of clothing, trade, food etc. The author praises many of their habits, skills and most of all hard work and hopes, that in the future, they might do more trade with Europe.
On the other hand Stare mentions in various passages the Chinese immigrants in the United States and compares their low paid difficult jobs to slavery.
The book was printed by a Catholic press in Slovenian language in Klagenfurt, a city with a Slovenian minority in Austria, but in the 19th century together with what is today Slovenia a part of Austro-Hungary.
We could not find any institutional examples outside Slovenian libraries.
