This is one of the earliest separately published works by Vladimir Nazor (1876-1949), who is one of the most known and productive Croatian writers, poets and translators of the 20th century. His first work was published in 1900.
The heroic poems, mostly sonnets, glorify the 23 Croatian kings and historical leaders.
Nazor was not involved in the politics until WWII, when he joined the partisans. He served as the first Croatian head of state after the war.
