The Republic of Dahomey was established on December 11, 1958, as a self-governing colony within the French Community.It attained full independence from France on August 1st 1960. In 1975, the country was renamed Benin.

The map was made by Direction du Tourisme du Dahomey in Cotonou and was published in Paris by Institut geographique national, Paris (Centre en Afrique Occidentale, Dakar).
