Map with decorative colour shows Europe, in the upper left corner mythical island Frisland. The map was published in Theatrum Europaeum by Matthias Merian.
Theatrum Europaeum, first published in Basel in 1633 by Matthias Merian, was a series of publications reporting on contemporary political and other events. The publications were continuously reprinted, revised and enlarged. After Merian’s death in 1650 Theatrum continued to be published into the early 18th century by Merian Heirs.
