Description
A portrait of an African man, made by an Italian engraver Giuseppe Longhi (1766 – 1831) was based on a portrait, painted by Anthonis Van Dyck (1599-1641), which was based on a detail from Rubens’s painting Adoration of the Magi in the Sint-Janskerk, Mechelen. One, possibly wrong interpretation of the man on the image in the past was, that he is a real man, called Johannes Farrugia from Ethiopia.
