A handsome, early 19th century illustrated manuscript pamphlet in French language explaining various methods of fortunetelling.

 

Small 8°, [96 pp.] manuscript in French with illustrations and charts in black ink, contemporary wall-paper stenciled wrappers with manuscript label in black ink pasted on the front cover, originally bound with a linen string (minor, sporadic staining to the corners of the first and last pages, binding slightly stained with scuffed corners and a part of the rear cover missing).

Description

A manuscript, bound in attractive block-printed wrappers and containing detailed instructions on fortune telling opens with the Wheel of Pythagoras or the Wheel of Fortune (Roue de Pythagore) and continues with the explanation of the importance of numbers and the use of those, combined with astrology, in fortunetelling, influence of the astrological sings on physiognomy (including practical examples) and chiromancy.

With the instructions in the book, one can not only see the future, but also predict the character and intelligence of people, infidelity, good and bad trips, weather and make an agricultural plan.
