Magnificent large lithographic view with original colour and highlights shows the Gosausee in Austria. It was published in a series of large format lithographs Ansichten der Oesterreichischen Monarchie, von den besten Meistern nach der Natur aufgenommen u. gestochen by Josef Bermann in Vienna, around 1850. The lithograph was based on a draft of Franz Xaver Josef Sandmann (1805 in Straßburg – 1856 in Vienna). Sandmann was a German-French landscape painter and lithographer.
The view was originally published as toned lithography. This example has been contemporarily hand-coloured with stunnung colours and mounted on a card. The originaly black margins have the effect of having definition and majesty of the view.
