A translation of the Gospels in Uzbek from 1913.

 

8°, title page, 359 pp., later green cloth binding with gilt title on the spine, embossed gilt name of the collector on the cover, original “Printed in Leipzig” rubber stamp on the title page verso (minor staining on the first two sheets and on the last page, old hand-written price on the inner side of the rear cover, binding slightly rubbed, otherwise in a good, clean condition).

Description

This is an uncommon Uzbek translation of the four Gospels, published by the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1913 on the eve of WWI. According to the imprint, the text was based on various other translations, but most notably on the Uzbek translation of the gospels by M. Ostrumoff, Russian Inspector of Schools, from 1891.
