An Ottoman translation of the French work on horse breeding Traité de l’Extérieur du Cheval Et des Principaux Animaux Domestiques by Félix Lecoq was issued by the veterinarian department of the imperial medical office in Istanbul. The example if bound in a highly decorative original illustrated cloth binding.

In the late Ottoman Empire, the sultan tried to modernise the cavalry in order to adjust it to the contemporary military strategies and needs by introducing the European riding methods and training of the horses.
