Description

Highly decorative small format shows the landscape by Lipowa in Poland. Lipowa (German Lindewiese)  is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Nysa, in Silesia. Before 1945 the area was part of Germany. The painting was made by a Polish born painter Arthur Blaschnik (1821 – 1918)

Artur Blaschnik was born in Strzelin, a town in Lower Silesian Voivodeship in south-western Poland. In 1843 he was studying painting at the Art Academy in Vienna and from 1844-1849 at the Academy for Applied Arts in Munich. In 1852 he travelled through south Tyrol to Italy, where he painted most of his works.

This view is one of Blaschnik’s relatively few original artworks relating to his native Polish region.

This view of the landscape around Lipowa was probably made around 1850 and was originally inserted in an album by a German noble Family from Silesia.
