Description
A detailed technical drawing showcases Fort-Louis, a fortress on the hill in Département Bas-Rhin in Alsace, close to the German border. Contemporary annotations verso are different calculation and a small plan.
The fortress Fort-Louis was built commissioned by king Louis XIV in 1686 on and was built in the next ten years, based on the plans by Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban and Jacques Tarade.
The drawing was probably made shortly after the fortress was built by an engineer, who was studying contemporary defense architecture.
