Description
Karagöz („Blackeye“) was a widely popular character in Turkish culture. The figure developed in the shadow play theaters and entered the late Ottoman Empire in a form of a sarcastic newspaper by the same name with a caricature of Karagöz in a contemporary situation on each title page.
In the early 20th century the Karagöz magazine published a series of pamphlets on practical subjects with further adventures by Karagöz, such as his travels to various countries and cities, which served as tourist guides, and our book on cooking with various recipes of the late Ottoman Empire.
We could trace three institutional examples on Worldcat: Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Hartford International University for Religion and Peace and Bayerische Staatsbibliothek.
