Offset lithography printed from both sides, with one part mounted on the back of a guide book (soft folds with tiny holes and tears, otherwise in a good condition), image: 56 X 76 (22 x 30 inches). Guide book: 15,5 x 10,5 cm, 12 p. Original red wrappers with cover printed in black and Gold (slighty rubbed and age-toned).

The highly decorative map of Paris, printed on both sides, shows Paris in the 1920s. Shown are most important buildings and the subway stations of the newly built subway lines (Paris Métro).

The first line pf Pars Métro opened without ceremony on 19 July 1900, during the World’s Fair. The system expanded quickly until the First World War and the core was complete by the 1920s.

This map can be dated in the early 1920s, because of the subway system and the lack of the city walls. The wall surrounding the city, so called Thiers wall, was constructed between 1841 and 1844 under a law enacted by the government of the French prime minister, Adolphe Thiers. It was only demolished in stages between 1919 and 1929.

This map was made for tourists visiting Paris and could be folded inside 18 page guide book with red covers attached to it.
