Description
A detailed book on perfumes and cosmetics was written by Louis Claye of the Maison Violet, a perfumery, established in 1827 in Paris, which at the time served as an official perfume maker to the Queen of France and Isabella II of Spain.
This is a fine, wide margined presentation example, bound by Despierres, the emperor’s bookbinder located in Rue de l’Echelle in Paris, with inserted manuscript page, dedicated by the author to Marie Henriette Anne of Austria, the Queen of Belgium (1836 –1902). The binding is decorated with the royal coat of arms and monograms M on the spine.
This is the first edition, which was followed three years later by the second one.
