Small 4°, [124 pp.] lithographed text with interleaved small-sized sheets with lithographed text, [29 pp.] lithographed text, contemporary dark green goat and brown spine with old paper label, minor water-staining to the margins of the first and last pages, minor wear to the otherwise in a good, clean condition, inserted note with the title and author, hand-written in brown ink).

ملا عبد الله (Mulla Abdullah bin Shihab al-Din al-. Husayn al-Yazdi also Mawla Abdullah bin Shihab al-Din al-Husayn al-Yazdi, died 981 AH / 1565 AD).محمد على (Mohammad Ali), Author of the Commentaries; الطلاب محمد على (Students of Muhammad Ali, Authors of Commentaries of the Second Part).

 

The book is a prime example of different variations of marginal commentaries and full-page commentaries in Arabic texts. Lithographed in Tehran, the book contains hundreds of various commentaries in diverse geometrical forms, and sometimes printed on additional pieces of paper.

Provenience: From a collection of a French orientalist, translator, politician and book collector Charles-Henri-Auguste Schefer (1820 – 1898). His collection and estate were sold in 1898 and 1899. A hand written-note with the title and the name of the author, inserted in the book, is typical for this collection and is attributed to Schefer.
