180.00

A rare primer in Slovenian language was printed on the eve of WWI in Vienna, when Slovenia was still a part of Austro-Hungary.

8°: coloured frontispiece, 110 pp. with black and white and colour illustrations in text, [2 pp.], original binding with illustrated cover, black linen spine and corners, original green endpapers (old pencil signature on the first blank page, covers slightly age-toned, spine and gutters of the endpapers with minor damaga, inside in a good clean condition with only minor foxing).

Description

The illustrations were made by Alexander Pock (1871-1950), an Austrian genre and portrait painter, who before WWI illustrated for Meggendorfer-Blätter. This pro-monarchist book is very rare, as it would not be encouraged to read under the kingdom of Yugoslavia, and later under Tito s regime after WWII.

There are only four examples recorded in Slovenian libraries and one abroad Yale University Library.
