Description

A rare pamphlet in French language, translated from German (Reise des Professors Dr. R. Lepsius von Theben nach der Halbins et des Sinai von 4 März bis zum 14 April 1845), was written by a Prussian Egyptologist Karl Richard Lepsius (1810 – 1884) and describes his journes and discoveries on the Sinai Peninsula in 1845.

The map showcases Sinai with marked route of the Israelis, Lepsius’s route, modern roads, places with found Sinaitic (Proto-Canaanite) inscripts and hieroglyphs. The inset maps shows the postition of the Saint Catherine’s Monastery and the Sinai valley (Valley of Paran).
