Description
A fine example of an illustrated selection of poetry by a popular Slovenian poet Simon Gregorčič (1844 – 1906) with wonderful art nouveau illustrations by a painter Maks Koželj was published two years after the poet’s death and includes his biography and facsimiles of his handwriting. Gregorčič is today considered one of the greatest Slovenian poets.
The illustrator Maks Koželj (1883-1956) was a popular Slovenian painter, schooled in Vienna, Munich and Prague. He is mostly known for his oil paintings and frescoes. The illustrations in this collection of poetry reflect the popular central European tendencies of book illustration.
The book is signed by the priest M. Umek, possibly a Styrian priest and a dean Mihael Umek (1886 – 1966).
