Description
A large colourful geographical map of Tajikistan, published by the Central Soviet Geodetic and Cartographic Office in Moscow in 1958, shows state and regional borders, road and railroad infrastructure, rivers, lakes, swamps and mountains, names of the regions etc.
The map was published in the year, when Nikita Khrushchev’s Virgin Lands Campaign focused attention on the country, where living conditions, education and industry were less developed than in the other Soviet Republics.
This example was used by a Yugoslavian mountaneering team in cooperation with the Soviet mountaineers during the height of the Cold War.
