Description

The text was edited by a specialist in Tamil language, Tantavaraya Mutaliyar with a goal to improve reading skills of the students through locally exceedingly popular storytelling. In 1820, Katamancari was one of the first books to be printed by the College of Fort St. George, which housed the school for the city officials, and was reprinted later in enlarged editions.

The book comes from the collection of a French orientalist, translator and collector Charles-Henri-Auguste Schefer (1820 – 1898) with his annotation on the first front loose endpaper.
