Description

Folio. 160 pp. with black and white illustrations within text, original illustrated color wrappers (wrappers slightly sained with small tears in margins, and small scratches, a small tear going through the inner side of the sheets througout the book, otherwise in a good condition).

A well-designed, richly illustrated propaganda book includes numberless stories from the Turkish history, starting with Osman I or Osman Gazi (c. 1299-1323/4), the founder of the Ottoman dynasty, until Mustafa Kemal Atatürk (1881 – 1939).

The stories include legends, historical events, love stories, maps, historical facts, technical details, maps of historical places, architectural plans, family trees etc. all accompanied by clear large black and white illustrations. The title page is decorated with a striking portrait of Kemal Atatürk.

The book was written by Reşad Ekrem Koçu (1905 – 1975), one of the most famous historians of the 20th century, specialized in Istanbul history. The texts are a part of his long, detailed researches on the local history and its curiosities, which he planned to publish in an elaborate encyclopedia. During his lifetime only a few of these stories were published in this publication.
