Description

This uncommon pictorial propaganda map was published at the beginning of WWI, to glorify the army of the Central Powers.

As the soldiers, occupying the countries of the Central Powers, are presented as upright professionals, the inhabitants of the Allied countries are depicted as chased away domestic and wild animals, as well as comical exaggerated caricatures. The accompanying song explains how the “European animals” started causing problems, until this moment, when the master (der Maister) started taking the situation in his hands with the goal to make order in the near future.

The map was contemporary published by at least two other Berlin-based firms, namely Verlag für heimatl. Kultur and Union in Charlottenburg.

Our example bears a stamp of a selling representative for these maps for Hungary.

We could not find any institutional example of this variation by Junos publishing house. We could trace only three examples by the other publishing houses, today in Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Austrian National Library and Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, Leipzig.
